Information about volunteering with WRASAC

The Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre is a women's collective involved in running a service that provides support to women, young women and girls (13+) who have been raped, sexually abused or sexually exploited at anytime in their lives.

The Centre relies on volunteers, and provides full training for women who are interested in doing voluntary work for the Centre. We accept applications from volunteers from all backgrounds who live in the area covered by the service. If you would like to get invoved in volunteering for WRASAC but live out with this area but work near to Dundee then contact us to discuss the possibiltiy of volunteering.

As a volunteer you can get involved in

  • Providing support to service users
  • All aspects of admin work and IT
  • Running support groups
  • Delivering workshops and training in the community
  • Publicity
  • Managing the organisation
  • Learning about and working on funding applications
What we look for in potential volunteers
  • Confidence

The initial training
All women who want to join the organisation have to successfully complete our initial training. This includes: Collective working and Confidentiality; Equal opportunities and feminism; Rape and Child Sexual Abuse; Support skills; Prostitution, Pornography; Working with Survivors who Self Harm, Working with Suicidal survivors, Ritual Abuse and Domestic Abuse. WRASAC provides follow up ongoing internal training on a wide range of related issues. The initial training is 12 sessions long and there is a requirement for women to attend a minimum of 70% of the training. WRASAC is required to conduct enhanced disclosure checks on all support workers and these forms are completed at the
start of the training along with a self-disclosure form.

What we ask from you after training
  • To respect the confidentiality of the service we provide
  • To work collectively
  • To work a minimum of four hours per week
  • To attend business meetings on a regular basis
  • To give a minimum commitment of six months work to the Centre
  • To adhere to Centre policies and codes of good practice at all times

What about my expenses?
Reasonable dependent, childcare and traveling expenses will be reimbursed. We are a women only organisation and do not discriminate against any woman on any grounds. We actively encourage women from various backgrounds to join our collective.

Board of Governors Appeal

We are currently looking for women interested in becoming part of the WRASAC Board of Governors in order to take the organisation forward. We would be interested in hearing from women with expereince in any of the following areas;

Accounting, Fundraising, HR/Personnel,
Employment Law, Appraisals,
Strategic Planning, Voluntary sector.
